Not going to be ready for school start sept 2020

Hi. I'm looking for support. Is there a group/ thread for children who are going to struggle with school in September?
My gorgeous boy had hearing issues and has had grommets, his speech is delayed, he doesn't do as he is asked in a consistent not just toddler way, he has only just begun to sing one part of one song, physically very capable though. There are other bits of issue. He is so cool but beats his own drum.
I would like a place to chat with people with similar sort of things going on xx

Does your DS go to nursery? If so, what have they said, are they providing support and has he been seen by the area SENCO? Have you considered applying for an EHCP?

I don't know what an ehcp is. He will have a thing from the nursery saying he has speech delay.
I doubt he will get a senco or anything as it's more his personality.
It feels like every child can count to 20 and write their name but mine can't.
I have given him all the opportunities to learn and I play with him etc. He just isn't there yet

Is the thing from nursery an IEP?

If your DS has speech delay he has special educational needs. The nursery should be providing support for his speech delay. Has his hearing returned to normal after the grommets? If not they should be supporting this too. The nursery's SENCO/Area SENCO should be involved.

Where is his development at across all the Early Years Areas? Do nursery think he will struggle with the transition to school?

An EHCP is an Education, Health and Care Plan. It legally sets out what a child's needs are and what provision they are entitled to. Usually for when a child's needs can not be met via their school's resources alone.

DD2 started reception with about 25% intelligible speech to me (so much less to strangers). She's actually done fine - she's a very quirky kid but very intelligent and now she has a dyspraxia and verbal dyspraxia diagnosis she has fully intelligible speech (it's still slightly immature in some aspects but has come on massively) and is working at expected level in everything (she types a lot of her writing work so the content can get through over the pencil control) and greater depth in some areas by year 2. I was convinced she wouldn't be ready (she still had some continence issues because of medical problems) but actually she's pretty much smashed it.

She's soooo never going to be ready to move onto juniors though - having that wibble at the moment even though I know transition arrangements are good and she'll actually be OK!

On entering Reception there is a wide range of ability.
From free readers to those who don't know any sounds.
From children who can draw quite well to those who can not hold a pencil with any firmness.

Reception is also 8 months away, a lot can change in that time.

Is he on the waiting list for speech therapy? That helped DD2 a lot.

(DD1 has dyspraxia, DD2 was prem, globally developmentally delayed at 18 months, 2.5 years only just linking words, but has slowly, slowly, slowly, narrowed the gap. )

just checking if he is a summer child (1 April-31Aug) as you can delay starting school by a year and still enter reception.
