Educational psychologist assessment - what to expect?

Hi, Long story short - Sons nursery applied for an EHCP, got refused an assessment, appealed through tribunal the LA backed out and agreed to assess. So they've got the reports from SALT, OT, Doctor and nursery. My son was diagnosed with Childhood Autism at 2 years old. He is now 4.
Now We've been told that an Educational psychologist from the LA will do an assessment at the nursery and add their report as part of the EHCP.

Has anyone had this assessment? What should I expect?

Can the LA still refuse EHCP?

Any advice would be great!

Well yes, it is an assessment of need. They will consider the content of all the reports and respond to that.

In my LA the EP would observe the dc in their normal environment at Nursery, and talk to the staff (seeing if what they see is 'typical', asking them questions about what he does / doesn't do.
They would also meet with parents - this varies, ideally at home, and they can also observe the child in their home, but sometimes the parent meets them at Nursery, and they get a picture of how the child presents at home too. They then write their report and it is added to the other evidence for the panel to weigh up.
