Hello I’m a mum of twins (boy & girl) aged 15.....due to take GCSEs in 2020.
My daughter has a general learning disability and suffers with comprehension/short term memory issues that are very bad and greatly affect her learning.
She was granted 20 hours support in her ehcp (not entirely convinced she is getting all this support) but as time progresses I’m really concerned with what the future will hold for her.
She has zero confidence, has dropped out of all ‘clubs’ and shows no aspirations for the future.
I’m at my wits end trying to steer her in directions, hoping that she’ll eventually take an interest in something that will lead to a future career.
Her ehcp meeting is at the end of March and we will be going through details in that, but I really wish the school/council could offer some more practical learning for her instead of academic.
Mentally she is a good few years behind her peers which also adds to her low self esteem.
She is in a mainstream school, but I’m still unsure as to whether this is the best setting for her.
I constantly beat myself up about past decisions that have been made for her future.
I am planning on taking her to a college open day in the hope that it might inspire her for a career choice.
Has anyone else any advice or similar experiences?
