Petition to make GCSE English exams fair for students with dyslexia

I have started a petition to campaign to remove the 20% allocation of Spag marks in GCSE English exams for candidates with dyslexia. I believe this goes against the Equality Act 2010 and needs to be addressed. These students cannot access these marks due to a disability and this means they are unable to gain access to further education. I have also written to and met with my M.P. and am working with others doing the same. please sign and share. Thanks! If you click below then the you should be able to access the petition. l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fyou.38degrees.org.uk%2Fpetitions%2Fmake-gcse-english-exam-fair-for-students-with-dyslexia&h=AT1QZJRGdAk-sILkxBaSWFIufXadfDeJkKSEN-a1ARnLsWLsGNl_WIX4wn-AHPeguHSd9UhVXZHlGVnddZJmvoNP9FbU-z6RSyMyThEAO3PHyhDW0_JOc1cNweCEAlwuQFjeg7PJi0VLBvhkbAhphASQBvf315CBE4MmecMyfrWaDpUwBa-h8lBI8Kd4DVBU1zfYyzUb9E-liPi2oytN8kPedaCaZkmipWFSCM-Yo053ivXQAoAtL1S2pCmmh1JXLmiacK0VOzFVaJIiNa7zxN93eClNbBTkS2l7K54gaunjI1wQDW1fysQn-DzIsouc0n-V40G5JYZ16XeCeMo2qaC6TyRMD8xYTqNw3wIDD7Ggiyj7-H67JIveqZ8hM3v69EQl-jN3MsJy8dPL6DG1reaiL3fMZwY9BQ

Thanks for sharing this. I have signed the petition.

My DD is dyslexic and in year 10.

I shudder to think what her English GCSE result will be if this doesn’t change.

Signed !

My daughter is only in year 4 and I hope to god that by the time she gets to GCSE's the system has changed ! In its current state it is so discriminatory against children with dyslexia. They are given no slack at all!

I too am dyslexic and although undiagnosed when I took my GCSE's and A levels, I was able to do relatively well because most of my subjects relied heavily on coursework. Being able to use a computer and spell checker were life savers. I look at the current exams and shudder! Good luck OP and thanks for posting x

Thanks for signing. The removal of coursework has made it even worse for them and no oral exam for English anymore either. So wrong.

I think the “magic grade C” (it 4 as it is now) also discriminates. My DS is cognitively able, is talented in practical areas, he’s in Y11 and working at Entey level. He will never, ever, ever in a million years get a gcse in English as his dyslexia is so bad but despite him being head and shoulders above his class mates with practical subjects he won’t get on a course to further his ambitions because of this. The system is wrong, it’s appallingly wrong.
