Suspected SEN:What should I expect to happen next?

I got called into a meeting with school last week. They have been monitoring DS (nearly 5) for some time and they are concerned about his progress - where his peers are writing sentences for example, he is only just managing his name. He struggles to focus on instructions and listen to the teachers. They suspect some form of sensory processing disorder: he is at the same level as a 3 year old, educationally.

I am reeling. DS is high - energy, sensitive to noise and inattentive, but I never considered SEN. What happens next? Will he always trail behind his peers?

Not necessarily.
What have they said will happen next ?
Have they suggested a referral to anywhere ? (Different referrals happen in different local authorities).
I think it a positive thing that they are looking beyond the hi energy and struggling to focus. They are looking at why this might be. Once you can unpick why, then they helps with knowing what to do next.
Have they any suggestions they are trying with him at school ?
