How is your child’s IEP goals in Secondary school reviewed?

Do you have a meeting with the Senco & child each term? Or is the IEP just completed by the senco & you are asked for your comments?

IEP is an old term used for kids who don't qualify for an EHCP. It is not legally binding in any way unfortunately & no support is guaranteed. If your child needs the guaranteed support, which as they go through secondary school is needed more & more, then id apply for an EHCP tbh!

My son has an EHCP, with "outcomes" and quantified provision but an IEP is produced with short term targets which is reviewed termly (in theory!) For example it might be "x will know number bonds to 10 and be able to count in 2's" then a new set of short term targets will be reviewed and agreed when these are met. The EHCP tends to have broader targets such as "x will be able to record his work and read it back" but the provision that is required to do that will include things like TA support, reader/scribe, assistive tech etc in detail. Ours also specifies the need for a short term provision map to meet this goal. The EHCP is reviewed annually. As PP has said the EHCP is legally binding but the IEP on its own isn't.
