Teacher giving DS headphones

My ds recently diagnosed ASD. Yr 4 teacher gave him headphones to wear for tidy up time in class. Ds has previously reported he finds lots of chatter distracting. He has never said volume an issue we go to super bikes he loves a disco .

He had not had a meltdown she was just trying them out.
I've emailed to ask for reasoning behind headphones as I don't want him reliant on props .

I'm concerned it will make him a target also .
How best to manage this with teacher

You should probably just be honest about your concerns. My son has just started yr1 and is wearing ear defenders at certain times in school but this was my decision. I wouldn't be happy with it happening with no prior discussion. Arrange an appointment to discuss why they think he needs them.

I think the teacher was probably just trying to be helpful and offered the headphones as a solution to your dc finding the noise of tidy up time difficult. I know you don’t want him to stand out, but children with ASD find the school day so difficult that if the headphones make life a little easier for him, I’d go for it. It’s a strategy, not a prop. I would let your ds decide if he wants to use them or not.

You could let them know that, as you go to superbikes and discos, then you don't feel he is hypersensitive to sound so that proobably won't help him, but thank her for trying, and let her know you'd be interested in discussing any other ideas she comes across.
