Help: How to find a Secondary School to meet a Lovely Child's Needs?

My friend's DD has been assessed as severely Dyslexic and also has Dyscalculia. She is currently at an Independent School that is not meeting her needs. She is having difficulty keeping up academically. However she is musical and artistic. Statementing is in the very early stages.

We need guidance as to what to do next. My friend has been advised that she should start identifying State Schools that have good SEN provision with a view to making an application once she has a Statement.

A change of school will be difficult for her. However it is a real possibility.

How should we go about this? What questions should we ask? Are there any organisations that could assist us?

Group need to look at the admission policies of the individual,schools to see if you meet their criteria. Ie. In catchment area. Some schools of provision for children outside criteria if they fleet criteria. Eg musical, sporting.

Speak to,the schools directly and see what they can offer you. Also, visit the school. You may find one feels right. Speak,to,other parents to,see what their experiences of the schools are like.

Look at Ofstead but use this as a guide,only. Ofstead are only in schools for such a short time, so,get a snapshot of what the school,is really like.

See if there is a local branch of the Dyslexia Association which might be able to give you some idea of which local maintained schools are good.
