direct payments by lea for transport (sen kids)

hi all

Is it possible to get direct payments to organise your own school transport for sen kids .Does anyone travel, from sutton to teddington. how much do you get ? can i know the Taxi cost please without escort ? if you get funding from LEA.

You may be able to but not likely through an EHC plan as transport isn't considered an educational need. Some LAs are now offering personal transport budgets as a separate exercise so you should ask your own LA whether they're doing this. I don't know the particular costs you're asking for but generally SEN transport is quite expensive. More than a normal taxi ride unless the LA is running minibuses to particular schools.

Usually with taxis local authorities organise it themselves as they have contracts with cab companies, but it probably does no harm to ask. If you do the driving yourself, you can claim mileage costs but local councils are usually very stingy about this.
