What do I need to know? And do to help him at my end? What should I expect from his school also?

I am dyslexic myself and had a late diagnosis, I only manage thanks to a volunteer who came to my school to help the 'special' children :/

He is 8yo and we are in Scotland if that makes a difference :)

I have no idea if its different in Scotland but my son was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was 7 (the youngest you can be diagnosed) and after the first 3 yeas at school with the school senco saying well he is a boy and a young one in the year (July birthday) it was a friend you noticed he might be dyslexic so arranged to get a private assessment. This came back with the dyslexia diagnosis which was a relief as it meant I has ammo for the school but unfortunately his senco where awful so I actually ended up moving schools in the end to get the help he needed. His new school have been excellent and they arranged for all sorts of outside specialists to come in for different assessments. He has now been there for nearly 1 year and he is coming on leaps and bounds all thanks to the right support. I think the main thing is his schools support go and speak to the senco teacher and give them a copy of his report. They should hopefully be able to arrange for extra TA support for him in class as this will be needed and I would aspect them to arrange outside assessments so they can come up a strategy to help your son at school.
