Dyslexia: Summer camps? or how to use the summer to keep progressing?

Hi,

I have been searching for any Dyslexia summer camps for children (DS 8, year 3 going into 4) but I have had no luck in finding any. The summer is such a long time and while we read at home daily he does forget things in the break. It's also a time when I find my DS is not as tired and learns more effectively as he hasn't got "school" to cope with along with any additional tutor work we do.

Just wondering has anyone found a summer camp or like that would be useful for Dyslexic children and the continuing support of their needs?

I have found plenty in the US see link camps That cover all ages but can't find anything here.

If not, what do you do during the summer to keep the pace of learning or reinforcing up?

even strategies you use to keep them motivated to learn in the holidays?

I'm dyslexic the most important thing is do something (this was also critical when I was on maternity leave!)
Read every day - make visiting the library part if your holiday and do a reading challenge if your library has one - they are usually free too, get him to read everything for you ie menus
Write everyday too - what ever form that takes, post cards, letters, shopping lists - give him money to pay for things in shops
Can you keep a tutor for the holidays and do a focused hour academic work or work book each day?

Hi I know this is an old thread.... However I would be really interested if anyone has any comments on these camps.

I can only find them in the US, surly there must be some in the UK?

My DS goes to a dyslexia summer school in Suffolk. Although I think this school is so busy that it only takes existing after school/Saturday pupils and if it has any left over places, only then offers them to other children

My DS loves it and gets a big buzz from going. This year will be his 3rd year of going.
