Can you please recommend a mainstream secondary school that deals well with SEN - ANYWHERE in UK and UNDERSUBSCRIBED!

We want to move ds (Y8) from his current school as he is making no progress, is stressed and unhappy and is not having his SEN dealt with.

There is no other choice of school locally locally and so we have decided to move to an area with a school he could attend that might actually help him.

His SEN are dysgraphia/dyslexia and many aspergers-type traits (though this has not had a dx so far).

Preston School in Taunton has a good reputation for dealing with SEN. They are mainstream, but apparently as of 2014 will also be opening an onsite ASD unit for students to attend if they are struggling. Might be worth a look?

Wirral Borough Council has a specialist dyslexia school called Orretts Meadow. They have outreach workers going into mainstream Wirral schools. Maybe worth giving them a call.

Wirral does have grammar schools but the secondary moderns and comprehensives (they have both) tend to be very good and most kids go to them. It is a large and varied area so I'm sure there would be something to fit the budget! Generally, people are very down to earth.

Queen Elizabeth's in Crediton Devon. Excellent pastoral care and a specialist Dyslexia centre. Split site year 7 and 8 at lower school, year 9 upwards at upper. Had a not very good ofsted before the summer, but doesn't reflect the school in the opinion of many. Good luck with your search.

hello, sorry I havent been back to this thread. I have had many suggestions (multiple threasds!) and have been busy looking at schools, ofsted reports, location, primary school for 2 dds, affordability etc. We are veering more towrds urban locations rather than rural as I want the dcs to have adegree of independence and I dont want to provider a taxi service for them for the next decade or so!
