I had a chat with my sons dr as he is having a difficult time in his mainstream school which he keeps being suspened in. He has a diagnose of ADHD with emotional needs. He has been awared 21 hours in his statement and his dr has said if he is awarded this amount his school isnt the right school for him and needs to go to a speacial school for behaviour and emotional needs. The head teacher from his school doesnt want him to leave and she has been great in trying to keep him there much to the disgust of the teachers who think he shouldnt be there. The head has only been there since september 2011. He has 1 on 1 with a T.A and is in a class room by himself as he doesnt settle in a full class room with other children and sometimes he cant cope with 2 or 3 in his class with him. He has been attending a nuture school in the afternoon since november 2011 and that is coming to an end at the end of May 2012 and so should be back in school full time. I am at a loss as what to do and what is right for my son, he is falling behind in his studies. Any tips on sites or info i could check out to help me make my mind up???

not up to the doctor ! Without having seen the school the doctor cannot say whether or not this school is the best school for your son.

what a strange thing for a GP to say! Has your ds had an assessment by an OT who is trained to assess sensory processing difficulties? They should be able to advise the school on strategies to help ds.
