DS ADD 8yrs old still having problems at school but not severe enough for medication

Im waiting for a call fromDS teacher about setting up a meeting with him & SENCO. He is on action plus & has been for 2 years. he figets constantly doesnt join in team games only has a few friends even though he is a happy friendly boy just too much in other kids faces.He doesnt do his work at school. He does get extra literacy help at school & goes to a "friendly" group at school once a week.
Im now starting PVT tuition 1 x week at home to help as the school doesnt seem to know what to do. Should i try & get him statemented but I dont think its severe eough?
Any one else in the same situation? :(

The only criteria for statement is need If I had £1 for everytime I had heard similar sentiments from teachers and other so called professionals along the lines of "oh he/she is not severe enough" I would be quite wealthy by now!!. You do not want him potentially languishing on SA plus for the next two years either. SA plus is not legally binding and has limited scope.

I would apply for a statement and ignore any naysayers. You as his mother can appeal in the event the LEA say no, school cannot appeal.

You are his best - and only - advocate here. You also need to think longer term i.e secondary school.

Re applying, have a look at IPSEA's website which is www.ipsea.org.uk and use the model letters on there. You need to also arm yourself with a copy of the SENCOP (SEN Code of Practice) which is available online. The more knowledge you arm yourself with the better as knowledge is power!!!.

Would also suggest that you post on the Special Needs; Children part of this website too as that forum receives far more daily traffic than this one does.
