Dyslexia support following education psych assessment?

Hi hoping someone knowledgeable could help me please. I have suspected for a while that DS1 is dyslexic, he is only 6 but DH is severely dyslexic so I was aware that this could be an issue.

Teacher and SENCO have said something is amiss and will be requesting an educational psychologist assessment however they firmly emphasised whatever the outcome there would be no additional money/support?

Can this be correct and could you point me in the direction of any helpful websites? Many Thanks!!!!

find out where your local "parenting partnership" centre is, the school will have a poster up or will be able to advise you. they are your support for any special educational needs advice. i have been on the phone to them several times over the past few weeks because my son has just had an EP assessment diagnosing him as dyslexic and they have been soooo helpful

I would hop over to the special needs:children board on here.

A diagnosis of dyslexia means very little really. You need to push to find out what the cause of it is. Is it vision, auditory etc etc? There are many others on here who are going through similar. In my DS's case he has eye tracking difficulties. We are paying for vision therapy privately. I am determined to helo him however I can.

School should be able to provide some support. Your DS may need extra times in exams or access to a laptop/alphasmart. He may need an IEP. SENCO is the person to push about all this.
