You best bet (least stressful, cheap, easy...), ted666, would be to remediate her reading yourself, using an evidence-based programme. Obviously, what the TA is doing with her is a complete waste of time -as is self-esteem work... her self-esteem is low because of her reading difficulties, so teaching her to read will be the cure for her low self esteem..

There's a free online programme here which is very successful if followed properly. You could even suggest that the TA uses it Wink rather than whatever nonsense she using at the moment:

Stairway to Reading- Registration needed: www.societyforqualityeducation.org/stairway.html
A one-on-one remedial reading program for students of any age who have already received some reading instruction but who are struggling with reading. Caution UK users: there are some N. American accent/sound differences
