Shaving baby's head

Hi all,

Wanted to ask if you shaved your baby's hair at birth / any other age as per some cultures / religions?

I don't have any desire to do so for religious reasons but I keep thinking of the old wives tale that it makes hair thicker!

Been doing a lot of reading and of course scientific evidence explains that it just isn't true. Hair thickness is based on genetics and shaving it will not change that!

Wondered what other SA mums of my generation think and do :)

My Indian ILs do, but I wouldn't.

I was there for DN's Aqiqah when he was 7 days old, he slept all the way through it. My SIL hated every moment, and I kept holding my breath watching his tiny head being shaved with a cut throat razor.

All was well, but he looked so strange as he was born with a lot of hair.

It took a while to grow back, but is now lovely. It didn't change in terms of thickness etc though.

I have a friend that did it just because she thought it would make babies hair thicker- it didn’t.
I’ve never known anyone’s baby have better hair after shaving it off, usually the same or they lose their beautiful baby curls.

It did make them thicker. But it shaving ceremony in my culture is at 1 year or 3 year old. So mine's was at 3!

He didn't like it initially didn't cry and was okay after a day got used to it.
