How soon did you have visitors once baby was born?

Expecting my first DC. DH and I live alone and will be staying at our own place once DC is born. There was some discussion about me moving in to my parents' home for the first few weeks but the closer I get to my due date, the more I kind of like the idea of it being just the three of us for a while.

We live in London, as do my parents, siblings, MIL and SIL.

So my question is, how soon after your baby was born did you have visitors? And could you day who they were eg. Immediate family (parents, parents in law etc) and then how soon after did you have any other visitors eg. Cousins, friends.

We're in a one bed flat waiting for our new house renovations to be over, we won't be able to move in until DC is about 2 months old. So the space here isn't amazing for visitors.

We actually encouraged people to visit in the hospital as we had been kept in a few days due to ds’s dramatic arrival so most family and close friends visited then. We knew the hospital would have a strict visiting policy and no one could outstay their visit.

However we had sent a text to everyone saying , we are excited and anxious about becoming new parents if you want to visit please text to see if the timing is suitable as we will not be answering the door unless a visit has been previously arranged.

thankfully everyone respected that. We stuck to visits from immediate family of parents and siblings for the first few weeks and then friends and extended family afterwards.

we were honest , if they text and it wasn’t suitable we said so and suggested another time.

it’s the one time to be selfish, look after your new wee family first.

Going back to live in your parents home after giving birth is just outdated and backward traditions. You have your own home with a capable dh, so there is no need to uproot your family to do that. Besides don't you want your baby to settle down in their own home? We also had our first in our home, my dm came over to stay for a few weeks to help us and then IL came after a month. I didn't want everyone around at the same time as the last thing I wanted was to host people. After a month I felt so much better so we had people over. Dh was on board with whatever I wanted to do.
