Moving to Huddersfield

Hi!

So I'm moving from Halifax to Huddersfield I wanted space away from my inlaws I've been married just under a year and lived with them and struggle through a lot of stress and health issues related to this since moving in with them.

Thankfully my husband has finally agreed to move after seeing the way I've been teated first hand.

I want to move to Huddersfield as my husband works in Halifax I don't want to move somewhere too far away for his commute to work but still far enough away to feel I have my own independence without any meddling from his mum.

I have no friends in the Yorkshire area and I want to move to a nice area where we can start thinking about having kids and settling down. I am asian pakistani and I work from home so its really important I have an area where I can go for walks and feel safe. I like to think I'm a friendly person so an area where I can get to know people and settle in would be amazing I drive so I would like to be able to get access to the motorway without too much difficulty.

Can anyone please give me any tips on areas I could move that could tick those boxes I would really appreciate any help.

Thank you!!

Hi OP. I hope it is ok to post here. I am not S. Asian, but DH is. Ds lives in Huddersfield and IME it is a really lovely place to live.
Lindley is one of the most expensive areas and the surrounding areas are very nice (but less expensive) and transport links are good.
I guess it depends if you are using car or public transport. Of course there are some more run down areas, just like any place, but there are lovely parks, national parks, historic attractions, beautiful countryside. The university is very highly regarded and I understand that many post grads settle in the area because they like it so much.
DS went to Leeds Uni, but prefers Huddersfield, bought his first property there and has no intention of moving away.
I suggest you go and take a drive around, then study rightmove. Look at a few properties.
I would be happy to move there when we get to the stage of downsizing.
I can't tell you much about schools I am afraid.

Greenhead park is lovely. We always go for a walk there when we visit. Very safe and popular.

Thank you soo much. I've been looking at Lindely and thought it was beautiful. I just wasn't sure how safe it was. I'll definitely look into it on right move.

Not heard of Greenhead Park I'll have a look at that area too you've both been so helpful 😀❤

I am south asian and moved to huddersfield a few years ago.

OP I live near Marsh which is very close to lindley. Both areas and lovely and safe. Near the motorway and good schools.

If you need any advice/support let me know 😀

Lindley and Fixby are only two areas of Huddersfield I'd consider 😬

Isn't the traffic really awful between Halifax and Huddersfield?

Good for keeping MIL at a safe distance but your DH might come to regret the move if he spends ages driving in traffic.

Oh, sorry didn't realise it was a zombie thread.

I think the traffic from anywhere that requires you to access the m62 is a nightmare! 😅 It's my most hated motorway.
