Do you use sunscreen routinely in the UK?

Both my parents are Indian origin and I have never used sunscreen in UK unless it is pretty hot and I’m going to out. Just seeing threads in Style and Beauty about skincare and spf everyday.

just. wondering what others do - Google leads to very mixed opinions including using to reduce ageing rather than just skin cancer.

I do. More because I find when I use just a normal moisturiser my sk8n dries out quicker. I use a sunscreen in summer months.

Like your parents, I only use sunscreen in the UK when it is very hot weather with strong sun. I'm not keen on sitting outside in the sun anyway. I prefer to stay cooler by sitting indoors, though will sometimes sit outside in a shady area for a short while.

I grew up never using it. I'm white with a warm tone and my skin tans brown instead of burns. I used to think I was hard as nails for not wearing it. But I have a few wrinkles on my forehead.

It's my experience that the use of suncream daily even in overcast weather is a new phenomenon for the UK because of increased knowledge of skincare. I doubt many men use it. My grandad has the nickname 'red neck' because he will do hours of gardening while refusing to wear sunscreen when offered, despite having had two types of cancer already.

Personally I now wear a moisturiser that has SPF30 in it.

I wear it virtually everyday, I only re-apply in the day from May to mid September.

I do from Spring through to end of summer but only in recent years and only as a result of knowing a young British Asian guy who died of skin cancer and it highlighted amongst my group of family and friends non of us ever used any suncream on ourselves (but all of us do on our kids) I dare say there is a misconception in our communities that as we are darker we aren't at risk but we are.

Both my parents are from India too. When I was in my mid 20s I started wearing sunscreen every day. I'm 37 now and always get told that I look a lot younger than I am. I dont have any wrinkles or lines. I'm not sure if this is down to genetics though.

Yup. Every day.

Xeren · 23/06/2023 17:09

Factor 50 everyday, even when it’s cloudy. I use it instead of a day cream.

kafkascastle · 23/06/2023 17:10

Yes every day even in winter. I’ve had skin cancer.

wizzywig · 04/08/2023 20:29

Yep factor 50 all year round
