I had thick hair when I used to oil-massage my scalp weekly as a child, usually using Darbur Amla hair oil. However I stopped at secondary school age like most Asian girls ('freshie' jibes etc). I also have PCOS and last year had long covid resulting in significant hair loss and dry, fine hair. I initially tried going back to oiling overnight and washing out in the morning but it wasn't making much difference so I've made a lot of changes with my hair care this year after some research and now getting a little regrowth. Just wanted to know if there's anything else that someone can suggest that's worked for desi hair (my iron levels, thyroid are fine)? Things that I have tried are:
-Biotin, A, B, C, K & D3 vitamins, Iron to up my levels (spa tone), Zinc, Magnesium, Fish oils
-Starflower & Evening primrose to balance hormones
-Low sugar and low carb diet, reaching a healthy BMI. Lots of protein.
-30 mins exercise 5 days a week to improve blood circulation.
-Yoga to reduce stress
-No heat styling, using cold water to wash hair.
-Following 'curly girl method' to wash/ style hair (2c/ wavy hair)
-Ayumi Ayurvedic 'Hair Growth' oil and black seed oil overnight treatment
-Sleeping on satin pillow, using satin scrunchie at night to reduce breakage.
-No 'tight' hairstyles that pull on hair
I'm thinking of trying Olaplex 3 and black castor oil next. I only saw regrowth when I doubled my biotin, upped my iron levels and took starflower and evening primrose oil. Any other ideas or natural remedies passed down from our elder 'aunties'😊? Thanks in advance.
