Lying - possible ND child

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or autistic children lying. Dad was recently diagnosed as autistic and I am wondering whether my 5 year old is possibly on the spectrum.

Amongst possible social difficulties, DS is frequently found to be lying. He is very quick to come up with fanciful stories about why he has done something, and he is now telling school things about home life that are untrue.

When I have researched, a lot of material seems to suggest that autistic children are less successful at lying, but I was wondering what real world experience people have? It's evident that with modern research, autism is not as clear cut as people seemed to claim it was in the past.

I've not yet considered having DS assessed as he was generally doing well at school and I know waiting lists are huge. But now he seems to be struggling at school and I'm not sure he is able to deal with his feelings, so a lie comes out instead.

DD is on the pathway for ASD diagnosis and often lies, in fact she could lie much earlier than it is said that children can lie. DH and DSIL can both lie very effectively and both seem to be neurodivergent too.
