ASD diagnosis - is it worth it?

We've just started the process of getting DD (6) assessed for ASD. The more I read about how it presents in girls, the more I think I probably have it too. Is it possible to be diagnosed as an adult? Is it worth doing? And how would I go about it? For DD we got through the school SENCO and CAMHS, but obviously that's not going to work for me!

Go see your GP. I did that for both DD and then myself.

I think I may need to find a different GP. The one we saw about DD was very dismissive and said he saw no signs in her - this from a 10-minute appointment at which he said nothing to her except hello and didn't go through possible markers with us. Luckily her school is being very supportive but that doesn't help me!

I went with a list as long as my arm and the GP listened and agreed to refer DD. She has an older sibling with a diagnosis though, so that may have been a factor. Sibling was referred through school a few years ago.

For myself I spoke to the GP but it was after 2 of my DC had their diagnosis. I think that helped, my communication can be good for ten mins in the appointment so it's hard to show that actually I struggle with this, again I took a list of billet points.
