Hi, looking for advice. Filling in an application for housing and although my son hasn't got a diagnosis yet, it is very likely he will be given one for autism. What I want to know is Can I put this on the housing application and how would I word it, plus would I need to send off any letters to show he is being assessed and then when we do get a diagnosis I can send that letter too. We are in a three bedroom flat but seeking a house as the flat is not meeting the needs of my son.

Just put in the medical needs bit that he is undergoing autism assessments and has additional needs. You have copies backing it up so it shouldn’t be an issue. It may be passed to the medical panel who review applications based on medical grounds and they may request further information, but it is possible to get the medical points eventhough you haven’t got a labelled diagnosis, especially if there are already services involved in supporting your son.

If it’s only on the grounds of him that you want/need to move then you may need to prove why the housing conditions are negatively affecting him.
