I am 28 years old and have dyspraxia but was just wondering if I could possibly have adhd. I have never held down a job for more than 5 months and cannot seem to settle at doing anything. I can’t read a page without getting distracted, I don’t seem to be able to not interrupt people and I really struggle with turn-taking. I have always been fairly hyperactive and struggled to sit still and have been very impulsive but always thought it was probably just my dyspraxia. I feel like I do really struggle but am not sure why! I was just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with adhd as an adult and how they recognised that they may have it?

I was diagnosed with add at 34 I just happened to end up with a mental health professional who was trained to do the assessment and during the course of my very first therapy session recognised the signs. You would most likely have to go private to be assessed.

Thank you for your reply. I wondered if that would be the case. If you don’t mind me asking, what were your signs of it and do you feel a diagnosis has helped you?

I find it hard to stay on topic in conversations, I find it difficult to complete things and stay on task, I have racing thoughts, I'm impatient, I often interrupt and blurt things out because I have difficulty recognising the flow of conversation. My diagnosis is relatively new so not much has changed as yet I'm hoping that moving forward I can get more focused support. It was also useful in explaining my behaviours during my PIP application but this was relatively minor as I have many coexisting conditions.
