To ask how you became wealthy/rich?

I don’t mean, buying a property when they were very cheap or inheriting money from family. I mean, what businesses did you start? What jobs did you acquire to get you to a position where you are now wealthy? Feeling down in the dumps about finances and would love to hear some stories from people who started with nothing :)

My DH came from absolutely nothing. He trained as a lawyer and happens to be ambitious and commercial so has risen to the top over the years. I also have a profession (psychologist) but was salaried so always felt I was treading water financially. I then set up my own business with employees and have made a lot of money from it. Neither of our professions would necessarily make you loads of money - plenty of lawyers out there in regional firms doing okay but not incredibly - unless you were very focused and money motivated.

Focused on long term wins but I'm not sure that's good advice.

I was paid very badly in my 20s whilst I trained, at 28 I was on a 17k a year stipend. My salary multiplied once I gained a unique skill.

But I'm not sure this is a great idea. I could have easily got to £80k a year without the qualifications just as a software engineer. 20 years of that might have been worth more, lower tax band & compounding, than going frugal then big. Maybe the tortoise wins the race. I should do a back of the envelope calculation to see if it worked out for me financially
