How did you get your first users for something you built?

Hi,
I need some help figuring out the next steps.

I’m a mum of two and a software engineer, over the past year on the side. I built something for myself because I kept missing school emails, payment reminders, club dates, PE days all the usual chaos of school admin.

It’s a simple tool that pulls key dates from emails into your calendar and gives you a clear view of what’s coming up.

The product itself is working and I have a few paying users, and several mum and dad friends who have been on the journey with me using it for free, they have been instrumental in feedback as I developed it.

I’ve hit a completely different challenge getting it in front of other people, which I thought was going to be the easy part.

I’ve looked at Facebook groups, Reddit, etc, but most places (understandably) don’t allow self-promotion, and I don’t want to spam or annoy people.

Yesterday we had a community event and I had a little stall and only one parent came over for a chat. I had my laptop and flyers out. I’m introverted, this was me stepping out of my shoes.

I’ve considered getting someone to do the marketing/sales but honestly I don’t have the budget.

So I’m curious, especially from other parents or anyone who’s built an online service product,
how did you actually get your more users and grow.

I feel stuck

Thanks

You need to learn Google ads (Google run a free course) and Meta ads and pay for advertising. Basically as an entrepreneur you have to learn marketing as well as building.

Thank you for sharing that, ’ll create one by the end of the week. This will keep me accountable.

I'm in exactly the same place! built something because I felt guilty about not filling in our baby book...
I'm a dad (I know, not a mum, hope that's ok) I ended up building a private place to capture the funny things they say, milestones, photos, all in one place.

Just launched and trying to figure out how to reach parents who'd actually want it. Deffo going to go down the google ad route at some point just thought exploring organic marketing first was the done thing!
