Business Idea - Plush toys

Hey all

I am working on a plush toy business, Inclusive Animals, the idea will be to launch on Kickstarter in the next few months. I was looking for for feedback from what would likely be my target market!

The idea came about from my nephew who has anaphylaxis to peanuts amongst other things. When I had my kids I wanted to educate them on food allergies but there wasn't really any toys out there that helped and so the idea was born

My kids started school in the last couple of years and are now meeting children that are not exactly like them and have disabilities, I probably could have done a better job in educating them around different disabilities and thought having plush toys (and hopefully books alongside them in the not too distant future) would be a good thing.

So the point of Inclusive Animals is representation for those with disabilities alongside education for children.

What do you think? Prototypes have been made as you can see in the picture

I only buy large plushies.
But wold love one that says anxiety or migraine or both but wold have to be large anything over 4 foot.

Lovely idea to work with kids and disabilities, but there are already enough soft toys in the world.

TennesseeStella · 28/03/2025 15:10

I think it's really not a great idea to have a child's toy brandishing a syringe. 😬

CheesyRaver · 28/03/2025 15:10

These already exist with a whole range of disabilities and illnesses

Not sure about having "I'm Autistic" as a badge to be honest and the monkey with a syringe is awful
If this was Dragons Den "I'm out"

Mielikki · 28/03/2025 15:17

I would definitely replace the syringe with an EpiPen.

Other than the smack monkey, they are just normal stuffed animals with a label sewn on. If someone in school or at home wants to use stuffed toys to talk about SEN or disability they can just label a bear themselves.

There’s a whole range of plushies wearing diabetic tech which I think are great but I’m not sure simply having a badge labelling as autistic / adhd is adding any value

Aligirlbear · 28/03/2025 15:27

Sorry can’t see this taking off for you - something similar is already available and teachers / parents can easily apply a label to an existing soft toy which would be familiar to the child to help explain disability.

Kickstarter and crowdfunding ain’t what it was, in the current economic climate, it is going to be very challenging to find donors/investors I think

Please don't invest your time and money in this.
