Best way to create a ‘coming soon’ website

I make and sell jewellery, I’m currently only on Instagram but I’d like to set up a website with the aim to be able to sell online later in the year. Assuming shopify or similar, for now though I’d like a basic website that’s just even a photo, maybe a mailing list link. What’s the best way to do that so i can later potentially use the same url for shopify? I don’t want to be paying a lot per month in the short term while I’m not actually selling online yet….

i hope that makes sense! Any advice is much appreciated!

With shopify, you can link your domain name easily and also put your site “under construction”, so visitors will only see the picture/short message of your choice while you’re working on getting your website ready, does that answer your question?

Thanks, I guess the main thing is that I don’t want to be paying for shopify before I get the online sales set up, for
instance I’d like to be able to set up a website with a holding image and maybe a link to mailing list, and then nearer to Xmas launch the shop? Is that possible?

I’m in the same situation- need to sell before I can pay for Shopify which, to me, is a lot of outlay. I found wix is ok as a very basic website , even a wix free page, except you get wix branding on it. But I’m guessing you could write your way around that.

I am wondering if setting up a free sumup shop would be best as I use it for in person transactions, and then getting a square space / wix site with a link to the shop.

For the sales solutions, I am no expert.
But if you want just a URL that says "Coming Soon", the cheapest would be to buy your domain name, find a free hosting service that supports WordPress (free, pretty easy), and choose a theme with a construction page/maintenance mode.
And later on, build your Shopify and just change the URL redirect or embed your Shopify within WP.

Shopify give you your first month for £1 and then have kept giving me £1 months as my shop hasn't made any money. I started designing the shop on Shopify in November and I'm still paying £1 a month

I'm a web designer and honestly this is so unnecessary. Just get a website when you need one and make the link live when your users can actually interact with the website to buy jewellery or whatever. Otherwise you'll just annoy potential customers. Put your mailing list sign up in your IG linktree or whatever.

With most email providers (Mailerlite and Flodesk are the ones I've used) you can create a one page website which you can attach a domain to. That might be a better option especially as it will give you the option of collecting details from those who are interested in your products so when you're ready to launch your website you can tell them immediately :)
