Feedback on idea - Baby swimming product

Hi there,

I'd love some feedback on my product idea before I commit and invest!
I am in the midst of creating a product to help keep your baby dry and warm after swimming, after bath or on the beach - if you've ever been swimming with a baby you'll have heard the cacophony of crying from all around the changing room!

It's essentially an oversized baggy onesie with an inner layer of very soft towelling and a waterproof back, so you can change and wrap your baby up quickly after exiting the water, to get them home. Could also be used on on holiday after being in the pool, or as an extra layer on the beach.

Any feedback would be welcome!

My children are well past this stage now, but thinking back to when they were, it's not a product i would be interested in.

My local pool did a baby swimming lesson once a week and it would take me under 10 mins to get my baby changed. i wouldn't see much value in an item like this.

But i'm unlikely to be your target audience, as i'm very anti what i consider to be excessive baby products.

if you really want to take this forward, maybe think of a way to to get more use out of it than just swimming eg mum and baby bath time, or adding uv protection for being at the beach, making it 'grow' with the baby, so they'll get more wear out of if.

Thank you for your reply this is really helpful!
If it wear more of a dressing gown equivalent I think it might have a bit more longevity as can be worn after bath time, or on the beach when toddling also.

What is the benefit. After you have taken off the swimming costume and swim nappy. Had to dry the baby and put on a dry nappy. Why use this product instead of just dressing the baby?x

I might be missing the point but with DTs when they were small out of the pool, swim nappy off, towelling poncho to dry and change and dress. I'm not sure what this adds? Also worn on the beach / bath time
Etc.

Babychewtoy · 09/07/2024 20:14

You’d have to put them in a clean nappy, so by the time you’ve done that you may as well just dress them.

Also if this garment is intended to take them home in then most people would be strapping the child into the car seat and you probably can’t tighten the straps enough if they’re wearing a bag thing.

It’s a no from me, sorry.

They already exist, I had one from Waterbabies for my eldest who is now 9.

Thanks all for your feedback! Really appreciate the honesty and input :)
Sounding like I might just want to make one for me!

Attaching a quick sketch for clarity. My thinking is that the key benefit is that it's very baggy, and so very easy to put on, not having to squeeze hands and feet down leggings or sleeves. Also as babies tend to very difficult to dry and a bit 'sticky' for a while after being in the pool.

Have a look at dry robes.

You'll probably find there's more of a market for this for toilet trained children who take lessons from a young age.

Something they can put on over cossie to travel to pool and on after to travel home. So a onesie style dry robe!

My ds is a swimmer and they still Chuck on tracksuit bottoms over their trunks and dry robes after training.

This came to mind before you posted a pic, because I have one for the dog.
I could understand bundling up a baby in something like that, but not much benefit over a large towel.

There are similar items available too. Not sure what the USP would be? Sorry.
