In the very (very!) early stages of trying to set a small business up, hoping to ship and sell olive oil, jam, honey from our hometown in Greece, initially on the local market where I live in Sussex. To begin with i just want to commit to a small amount, trial out the market a few times and just get a feel for if/ how well it sells.

Can anyone point me to a good site to get glass bottles? Initial order of maybe 800. When i put into Googe 'glass bottles' it sends me off to lots of good sites, but all the shipping comes through at atleast £60- am i being really naïve, i hadn't factored that in at all!!

Please be kind if I am being naïve- this is very early stages, i'm used to shipping being £2.95ish haha

Just to clarify - do you want to bottle this yourself or to have it bottled in Greece?

I was thinking to ship over in large amounts (e.g. the olive oil comes in 17kg canisters) and then decant myself into bottles and label them

Usually, for wholesale purchase of goods like this postage will go on weight. 800 glass jars would be a pallet so you'd have to pay for that kind of delivery. Don't forget that you'll also have vat to pay

Coloured bottles is generally the cheapest glass wholesaler in the uk

What would you do about making sure they're clean and meet hygiene standards? I do think it's a great idea if you think the food supply is going to be regular and capable of increasing at short notice. Don't you have to pay duty etc now we've left the EU?
