Buying a business abroad?

Hi all.

Myself and DH are approaching 50 and have decided that we would like to have a complete career and lifestyle change.

For context, we currently own a holiday home in Tenerife that we purchased back in 2007 and we go there about 4/5 times a year. Family and friends use it as a base too when they go over there. DC have left home and are independent so the perfect timing for us.

I am currently a hotel manager and my DH is a senior professional in his field.

One of our friends from Tenerife owns a bar (a very popular one) and has done so for 25 years now. Due to health reasons, he wants to return to the UK to be with family. We have had a conversation about buying the business and he has offered us a discount if he we wanted it. The business comes with the actual premises, the trading name, fixtures and fittings and stock.

We know it’s going to be completely different to having holidays over there and we will be working 80+ hour weeks in the Summer but just wondered if anyone has done this? I’m very experienced in hospitality in the UK having managed pubs, bars and hotels but be good to have an insight to people who have done it abroad. The business is very profitable and we would continue to operate how it is, but with a few minor changes.

We plan to rent out our home in the UK (we could sell it) but it gives us additional monthly income which would top us up in the quieter months.

Do you have the right immigration permissions to live and work out there?
