Painting workshops for groups - prices?

I was once asked if I lead a painting workshops, as a local art social group liked my work.

I have an idea of how pricing structure would work if I did this directly, per person (as there are several examples online so I know roughly how much I would charge for a half day or full day). However, I don't really know much about pricing and can't find much when it comes to how much people charge when they're booked by an organisation. This is of interest to me as sometimes galleries will run events as well where they get a local artist to come in and teach a workshop on their premises. Groups like the WI also sometimes book someone in the arts to run a class for their members.

The benefit of teaching to a group like this (I would have thought) is that there is less admin when it comes to individual payments or cancellations from different people. The organisation pays you one lump sum, and then if a few people cancel, then you still get the same payment.....or do they.....I don't really know!

Any insight would be appreciated.

I've just attended a one day painting workshop run by an established local artist at her studio. There were three of us and we paid £110 each, which included coffees, lunch and all materials. She also runs workshops at hotels for groups of 12-15 at £120 per head, including lunch, materials etc.

Thank you. It sounds like she is still doing those directly with individuals though, rather than being paid one sum by the hotel? @Lavenderosa If she's doing that, she would have to pay for venue hire?

Or is it that it's the hotel that still books her and she still charges per head?

I don't know her exact arrangement with the hotels I'm afraid and that's the bit you need to know isn't it! Sorry, I should have read your post properly.

A friend runs a business organising art courses that run over several weeks. She does the advertising, venue hire, booking and making up the art packs and employs artists to teach the students. The groups are fun and relaxed and popular with retirees. There are a few groups running in the Hampshire/ Sussex area. Joining a group as the teacher could be another option.

Please could you read through my post again? Being hired by a group as a teacher is what my post was actually about @menopausalmare
