Alternatives to wedding cakes- cakes by post

I bake to professional standard and have always dreamed of having a wedding cake business. Unfortunately where we live there is an extremely good local bakery which has the market sewn up and, having researched, I don’t think I can viably compete on quality or price for wedding cakes or anything related.

I’ve therefore started thinking about cakes by post (eg flapjacks or brownies) as a way to broaden the potential customer base. I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this sort of business?

I’ve run a successful business before (albeit in another area) and am also up to speed with regs, insurance etc. Thank you.

I’m also a professional cake maker. I usually travel at least an hour to deliver wedding cakes, and my customers come from all over. I wouldn’t be put off by a local cake maker unless you are somewhere that further afield customers aren’t a thing like a tiny island.

No experience with postal bales but I know people who make it work. A lot more work needed to achieve similar profits to wedding cakes though!
