Is reselling wholesale worth it?

For years I've seen the same items cluttering up Etsy, Ebay and similar - wholesale items, for pennies each, bought in bulk. You see them being sold for higher prices on nicer websites with fancier photography, or mounted on prettier cardboard, but it's still a 29p necklace.

Anyway, I've been reselling vintage finds for a few months and it's done rather well so I'm thinking of putting in A Bit More Effort and adding related items to the shop.

But is this really worth it? One item, for example, was being sold on Ebay by 81 sellers and over a hundred on Etsy. It hardly seems worth attempting to compete - unless you rely on impulse purchases while they are on your site for The Main Item, or you under-price pack 400 orders a day just to break even.

Or I'm way off base and people don't mind that decor is fairly common across the internet, or don't realise because they don't search much.

Unless you have huge buying power, you can't compete. So you find things that no one else sells and you can't do that buying from wholesalers that are on the first page of Google.
