What's the best sling to use with a big newborns?

I'm due in 5 weeks, and DC is estimated at 8.5lb already, so I'm expecting a 10lb-er if not more.

For DS1 I had a hotslings pouch and DH used a Baby Bjorn, but we didn't really use them till DS was about 4 months, and I didn't get to grips with it.

Can anyone recommend a good sling for a big newborn (so supportive in the right places, but that'll last)?

Thanks

Congratulations and I hope all goes well.

Estimates of weight by scans are notoriously unreliable so don't worry too much about it.

And in the last month of pg, babies don't put on much weight, i have read.

But, irrespective of the size of your baby, a stretchy wrap, or a woven wrap will be supportive for along time.

You may want to go to a slingmeet to try one out. Some mums get on with different types of slings so that is a good place to try out different types before spending the money. Some mums love ring slings for example but I find them fiddly.

I also am a big fan of pouches like you.

Mei tais and buckle carriers can all be used from birth and just ask and they'll show you how.

Congratulations on your imminent arrival!

My own son was big at birth (9lbs3oz) and we've gotten great use out of our Close sling - so very comfy to wear and easy to put on/adjust between myself and my husband and the baby was snug on our chests, so easy to check him. Still using it every day at 12 weeks (he's actually asleep in it on my husband as I type!).

Thanks for the replies!

I'll have to investigate slingmeets (never heard of them before!).
