DD (8 MOnths) is currently in a Baby Bjorn carrier which I like, but my back is giving up!!! I need to move her to a hip sling but am lost as to which one would be best...

So, I am praying someone on MN will be able to help.

I need something that DD can sit in without me needing to hold her, as I have a 23Mo DS too.
It needs to be small / lightweight so I can carry it when DD is using the buggy
I'd like something which 'feels' secure - like the baby bjorn - I'm not great with those fabric wrap slings.

ANyone got a sling they would recommend?

thanks, Harimo

There's one called a Ellaroo Mei Hip that might be worth looking at, or ring slings / wraps can easily be used for hip carries (I know you said that's not what you're after though). Have a look at www.slingguide.co.uk if you haven't already...
If your back hurts, though, are you sure that a hip sling is what you want? I have some lower back trouble and find carrying centrally (either front or back) to be a lot easier on my back than the more asymmetric set-up of carrying on the hip. Maybe try a mei tai if you're not up for wrapping? Can you get to a sling meet near you to try a few out?
Hope you find something that suits you.

I should think your back is killing you because the BB is so poorly designed.

The Hotslings Adjustable Pouch Sling from Baby-Bean.com is a really good option, because of it's adjustability. Normal pouches are difficult to get to fit just right, and if they're too big they will pull on your back. Otherwise you could look at a ring sling?

I haven't tried one but think www.scootababy.com/these look good.

Sorry- bodged the link- scootababy

Most online retailers will help you choose the right size of pouch sling as it is not in their best interest to have it returned to them. they are all, in my experience, baby wearers so they know how to give advice for measuring yourself and they all do returns if you choose the wrong size.

I love pouches as they are so small they fit in your handbag and once your baby wants to be up and down or you are out and about, it is a quick carry solution. Every mum should have at least one pouch sling.

Oooh.. Skegness - I like the look of that one!

I've been looking at the quinny one but I just can't decide

OK, I've bought the scootababy hip carrier - it looks perfect for what I'm looking for and this one has the added advantage that my DS (2YO) could pop into it too, which is an added benefit for me.

Will def. look at the pouch slings too - I do like the idea of being able to wriggle out of the contraption now and again!!

Thanks for all your help.
