alternative to baby bjorn?

hello! My baby is 11 weeks old. I have just started using my baby bjorn and love the freedom it gives me over a buggy etc, but have read that it is bad for babys hips etc. Can anyone rec a carrier which is similar (eg has clips to fasten, not a tie up etc) but better for baby? thanks a million!!

There are loads of great brands, [http://www.sleepynico.com/ sleepy nico]] (these are brill), rose and rebellion, ergos and becos to name a few popular ones. All will be a thousand times comfier than a bb and look better too

They hold their value well too so you can sell on easily after. natural mamas have a great selling board

Hi, I have tried a few: ErgoBaby, Manduca, Yamo baby carrier and of course, Baby Björn (which BTW I woudn't recommend at all). IMO Ergo is the best.

I have a babybjorn which my DH uses and both boys like - I used a close carrier when DS2 was small and moved to a Beco at around 5 months which he loves and happily sleeps in.

Thanks for the replies all. I have looked at the suggestions. To those who have connectas - Would this be suitable for an 11/12 week old (she is about 14 lbs now)? They dont seem to be that 'covered' at the sides - is baby secure? Also - do these come with covers for outdoors? Also like the look of the Beco - anyone have any experience of this over the Connecta? I live in London and woud be taking the baby on and off the tube so something sturdy and safe and with a cover I could whip off and on would be ideal. Thanks again in advance.

they dont need to be covered at the sides. the baby is heald against your body securely.

with regards to a cover, you could buy something like a hoppediz fleece cover here or just tuck a blanket over. i usually do my coat up over dd4, or wear my 'two headed' coat if its a really chilly day and she is on my back.

I have a solarweave connecta and my 4mo is so snug against me that as misdee says they don't need to be covered at the sides. It has a sun hood that I clip over his head when it's raining and when he's asleep to give extra head support. I love it!

FWIW I had to put DS in the baby bjorn the other day as the connecta was in the car and having not used it for a couple of months baby felt so heavy by comparison.

When the baby is on your front you can wear a maternity coat or a normal coat a size or 2 too big.

Soft Structured Carriers (ie the ones you have asked about) are a really good investment IMO as they last well into the toddler years if you get the right one and when the baby is wanting to see out a bit more you can put them on your back really easily (I loved my wrap when DS was little but have never mastered back carries in it)

Never tried a connecta but love my Beco Butterfly 2 - and all the fab and funky designs you can get on them. In answer to your earlier post, I'm in London too (North West) and find in the cold months that DS2 in the Beco, with an oversuit and hat on, and me with an open coat over the top keeps us all very snuggly and warm.

You could try going to a slingmeet if there's one near you? I hired a few slings from the one local to me before I bought the connecta. The beco looks lovely too btw and looks like the baby is held in a similar position to the connecta, properly supported around the bottom and legs.
