Ergo Sport Vs Boba Baby Carrier - anyone got an opinion or have experience of either?

Hi. Looking to get a SSC and my sister has an Ergo (New Generation) which she thinks is fabulous and her son (a big 2 yr old) is very comfortable in it. However, searching on the internet for something slightly cheaper I came across the Boba Baby carrier and I'm not sure which one to go with. I like the Ergo Sport as it comes higher up the child's back (unlike the Ergo New Gen), it fits the slighter larger person. you can hip carry and it you can get accessories that attach to it (e.g backpacks, small pouches etc). The boba again comes higher up the back and it has footstraps for older babies but it would mean having to take an extra bag for essentials.

Does anyone have any experience of a Boba or an Ergo Sport and could advise me on the best one?

Cheers

I don't have experience of either of those carriers, but you could attach an Ergo backpack to any SSC. I have one but I don't use it much because it isn't practical. I use a cross-body bag or a P&T hangbag.

I wouldn't be swayed by the footstraps either, because if the child is seated correctly in the SSC they shouldn't need additional foot support and they look like a faff to me.

The Boba looks nice but I've never heard of it. Is it new?

Hmm, the footstraps look like an annoying gimmick to me and I agree that with the correct seating position they simply aren't needed.

I also note in the review I came across that it doesn't have a sleep hood and that could be very annoying with a baby who likes to doze in the sling once the body's no longer high enough to support his or her head.

If it's between the two of them I'd stick with the Ergo, which is tried and tested whereas this seems relatively new to the market. But you might also like to look at the Patapum, Manduca and Bondolino.

And you should find this site helpful too.

Ok, let me add my thoughts here!

My little one's 10 months, so I haven't yet tried the Boba...but I have tried the Ergo. The Ergo is a good carrier, but the older my daughter gets, the more I can see the benefit of having a "toddler specific" carrier, like the Boba. I have a daughter who loves being carried but likes to lean backwards...a lot...and the taller she gets, the less secure a shorter backed carrier like the Ergo, or a wrap, seems.

Boba is a relatively new product, but it's been made by Sleepy Wrap, who aren't a new company, and make a really good wrap, which I use all the time. So I'm hopeful they would also make a really good soft structured carrier. Parent reviews in the US have also been good - and say it is sleeker than the Ergo. The only downside for some is the lack of sleephood - although not for me! There's no way my baby would sleep if I am out on an exciting walk!!
