seems too good to be true does it not? or should i buy one and give it a go? Dh will threaten divorce if i go for the heart rose ergo (import from states!)

not going to be used full time- just school run really 5mins walk each way, and maybe to morrisons etc- never using more than an hour at a time i'd say- shall i??

yes but even including postage is less than £20!! i've not found one for under £45 anywhere else!

Hmm it says mothercare though and their versions of things are usually not very good and overpriced.

How old is the baby you need to carry and how long do you want to carry them for (age-wise)? I have got a wilkinet I tried but didn't like (I think I am definitely a wrap person!) which you can have for £15 inc postage if you want it. It's not as supportive as the ergo though.

she's a sturdy but small 18monther- i need something easy to put on for a back carry- i like buckles i need to get her slung quickly and easily and out the door with 4 boisterous boys and get them to school!
Thanks for the offer though I have been using a wrap but she wriggles too much now- it all ended in tears earlier today (my tears btw) and i had to lug the buggy up the hill!

I wouldn't. The baby isn't positioned correctly in the publicity photographs and they claim it is suitable to position a baby facing out, which is hard on your back and not supportive of a baby's.

I'm very sceptical of the maximum weight quoted and very much doubt it would last beyond six months, if that much.

And I seriously doubt it will have any resale value.

You could pick up a mint condition secondhand JoeySling or Babyhawk for around £35 and be able to sell it on when you've finished with it. It would be more comfortable, would last much longer and would look far prettier.

Well if you find a good deal and there is more than one in stock, let me know - I am in search of something to do a back carry with by myself as well! Wilkinet definitely not suitable for this I found (also I felt like DS could lean backwards if he was tantruming and fall out)

She's 18 months! No, I really, really wouldn't. Mothercare types are only suitable for little babies and even then most people find them too uncomfortable to use.

There are heaps of buckle carriers cheaper than Ergos which will also hold their value, Connectas, Sleepy Nicos, Rose and Rebellions, just to name a few off the top of my head.

i had a connecta last winter which lasted less than a day before a seam fell apart on the body- having spent £62.50 i was not amused and it went back! needless to say i won't be trying one again!

I'm not interested in resale value tbh- just want something easy to get on which will carry her less than a mile a day in total- think it will have be the ergo- tbh i don't really trust getting somthing i haven't seen in person unless it is a cheapy so the ergo is a known quantity iyswim!

No, I only mentioned resale value because you said the Ergo was too expensive in case you didn't realise that a lot of these carriers aren't as expensive as they might seem because they will sell on.

That is quite shocking about the Connecta. I hope you had a decent response from the vendor. They are very popular now so I hope that was a one-off.

Personally, I loved my Sleepy Nico for getting out of the house quickly. I have tried an Ergo and it is a good carrier but I do think it is a bit overpriced.

If you like that style you could look at Manducas and Patapums too.

thats why i'm wary- it took a lot of time and hastle before i got a refund for the connecta even though i had bought it from a well known site (maybe i should have bought direct, but at the time i'm not sure i could).

Maybe i'm cynical but having seen the connecta and the actual make up of it- and seen the fabrics etc i really think the 'fashion' for babywearing has rocketed the price of something which is relatively basic. When i saw the ergo- the workmanship was far better quality, the fabrics are much sturdier and generally like for like i am swaying towards the ergo being 'better value' difficult to explain but i was quite shocked at how much these things cost when the example i had (and i really do hope it was a one off) was shoddy and certainly not worth £30 let alone double that.

the ergo in heart rose (oooohh!) is about £92 delivered from the states, so on a par with uk prices- very tempted with the exchange rate atm. It would certainly be worth something if i didn't get on with it as it is not a colour you can buy over here (unless someone can find one in which case i will buy it from a uk distributer)

the dilema! i love my wraps but trying to tie dd on is like fighting with a small kangaroo maybe perseverence is the key, then again the ergo as you say will hold value so wouldn't be such an expense. Blimey- i remember the great pram debate with dh- who'd have thought a sling would cause as much confusion i'll sleep on it and broach the subject with dh in the morning.

I know she doesn't list it on her site, but I think Victoria at www.Baby-Bean.com has ordered in a HeartRose Ergo before now because one of our mutual friends has one. She might even do it at the current discount if you ask nicely.

ordered a patapum- got the baby size as i'm only 5 foot and dd is a titch as well- tried the toddler size on and it felt wrong somehow so after some advise from a sling-bod (technical term!) we have gone for a plain black boring baby patapum- but function over style i suppose Thank you for all your advice ladies!

So long as it does the job, what does it matter? And you could always tart it up with some appliques if you're talented or iron-on patches if you're not.
