How to back carry alone for longer walks

I have a lenny lamb upgrade, do is 8 months. I can get him into it alone ok, need to sit down on floor to get him off. The problems I've got are his sun hat never stays on and I can't put it on myself when he's on my back. How do you carry everything else you need - picnic/nappies/bottles etc?

I'm only 5ft and my boy is long at 76cm. Would it be easier with a rucksack carrier and do they have space to hold everything else you need?? Need some good practical advice please as I can't fathoms how to do this at all!! Thank you!

Have you tried watching some youtube videos or visiting a sling library to practice how to get them onto your back?

I used to use a small backpack or cross body bag but I would put it on my front so everything was in easy reach.

Sorry I misread your message - you can get him on your back ok.

Sun hats are tricky! Maybe one with a firm brim will be easier to get on? I bring a small umbrella to use as a parasol just in case.

I used to carry a parasol over both of us rather than wrangle with a sunhat, and carry everything in an Onbag - which could be adjusted to fit under the sling and took everything but the kitchen sink. I don’t know if they’re still being made (DS is big enough to carry me now) but they were wonderful.

Or you could wear a rucksack on your front.

@Mamma1246 thank you, will try a parasol

@CatChant thank you, his nappy bag is like an onbag so I can just use that! And again yes will try a parasol, going to see if you can get ones that attach to carrier!
