Is it worth buying a sling at 6 months old?

DS is 6.5 months old. Tried a moby wrap and ring sling when he was new but didn't get on with them and hardly used them as they're such a faff to get on and get them to feel right. I wondered if a more structured carrier would be better, something like the ergobaby 360 or one of the baby bjorn ones. There isn't a sling library nearby to use so I haven't tried them. It would really only be for things like popping in to shops and things to save me getting the pushchair out, or if he's having a day where he won't settle. But I'm not sure if it's worth it at this stage? We won't be having anymore children so won't get used again! Kicking myself for not just getting it earlier now!

Absolutely worth it. I got an Ergobaby at 6 months and used it loads. DD2 is nearly 3 and it still gets used occasionally.

Yes! I joined a FB group (title is something like affordable slings for sale or swap) for second hand slings and got a beautiful bargain Mei Tai which has been amazing as I don't get on with backpack style straps. My baby is 9 months and very tall and heavy but gets frustrated in the pram. There are so many out there! Not just ergo but Connecta, manduca, beko etc if you like a buckle carrier. I'm so glad I took the plunge, I think i'll be using mine until she's 2 or 3.

There is a website called 'It's a sling thing' that you can hire different ones to try them out before buying. I have a stretchy wrap that I love but my DS is getting a bit big now (9 months). Thinking of a buckle carrier next.

Yes, yes and yes! We bought ours when DS was 3 months and are still using it at 18months.

My 'baby' is 2y9m and we still use the toddler Tula very often. Lazy toad.

Got an ergo around 6 months. Used it loads. Absolute lifesaver e.g. 20 mins housework with back carry. Popping to the supermarket with a fussy grizzly teething limpet baby!

DS was 99 percentile for weight so I really appreciated the ergo, v comfy compared to other slings I tried. Not very attractive looking but by god it does the job!

DD is 20 months and we're thinking of getting a Manuka so we can get off for some better hikes.

Thank you! I'm getting a Beco 8 for Christmas, fingers crossed DS likes it!
