Interested really as my baby never stays awake.

Wondered how it affects routine and self settling long term?
I have four 5 and under so I use the sling a lot.

My 8 week old falls asleep sooner or later (and generally sooner). She is in the wrap for several hours a day. I never found it a problem when I did the same with my elder one.

My little one (touch wood) still self-settles during the night without the wrap, and sometimes will sleep in the day without the wrap, but more often not. My eldest went to sleep in a woven wrap on my back both for daytime naps and at night from about 16 months to 3 years, but went straight to self-settling in bed and very seldom woke in the night either in the days when she was wrapped to sleep or afterwards.

I have read that children with positive associations of going to sleep (e.g. snuggled against you) actually sleep better as they get older.

i used a moby wrap loads, i have now given it to my sister to use and yes as they got older they stayed awake in the sling and had a good nose about at what was going on, but when little they fell asleep in it al the time, it was great for that very reason, they slept well as they were snuggled up and warm and cosy and felt safe and i could get on with looking after my others.

i dont think it made much difference to self settling they all did that as well as they got older, it was a very gradual process for us as we co-slept etc.

if you want to pput baby down to sleep sometimes you could try swaddling as that wil feel a bit like being in the sling my youngest is 17mths and has only just stopped being swaddled for sleep, she loved it!

Dd is5.5 months and has lived in the sling since birth. She stays awake just fine and settled into a routine herself. I did start taking her out more as she got more wriggle and mobile as she liked to roll etc.

Thanks, yes have swaddled all of mine too. Sometimes she will be put down during the day a sleep for ages but mostly only in the sling. Pie does sleep well swaddled during the night though which is also quite often co sleeping.

I love co sleeping esp as breastfeeding it is much less tiring. But don't want to do it long term as I'm only happy to co sleep when dh is in the spare room as he can sleep deeply so too scared he will squish her.
