Hi, I have a 15 Month old dd and due to have dc2 in a fortnight. I really need a sling or carrier that is easy to put on so I can just throw dd in buggy and put baby on me and leave house with minimum fuss. I tried Baby Born (?) thingy last time but I felt like dd was going to fall out and also it seemed a bit of a faff, so only tried it two or three times. Can anyone recommend a safe easy way for me to carry baby around please?

I love stretchy wraps for newborns but it depends whether you think they are too much faff. They take a small amount of practice to tie, but once on you can pop the baby in and out very easily. Have a look at Moby, Wrapsody, Kari-Me etc. My favourite for summer is Wrapsody - thinner but more supportive than many of the alternatives.

If the idea of a long bit of fabric doesn't appeal then maybe a buckle carrier? Something like the Manduca or Connecta. The former is more structured and supportive, the latter cooler and folds up smaller. I'd avoid the Ergo for a summer baby as from newborn you need to use their rather naff insert that isn't great and is really warm.

That's great, thanks pootle, I really like the look of the wrapsody basic x as seems very straightforward and snuggly but think I'd be too scared to leave house incase babby fell out due to my incompetance! The manduca and connecta both look good too. Thanks for your advice!

I bought an ergo for the same reasons as you cagney, it has felt very secure, I needed to know I could go hands free without worrying. I had my ergo through the winter when DS was small so it was ok, but I also wouldn't recommend it for summer either. The Manduca is so similar in shape so would feel just as secure.

I've had a Baby Bjorn in the past, I found the ergo/manduca style ones much quicker to put on...now I'm into it I have bought a wrap one (for days when I have the time). I also quite like the Tula ones, that may be my next purchase as I need a spare one!
