Ergo Infant Insert and Moby sling for newborn - Opinions please

Thinking of getting both - DH loved Ergo for DD1, but wondering how infant insert works as not seen many in action, as it were. Saw a woman demonstrating on youtube and I was worried baby was going to be suffocated.

I think I'd like a Moby but am short (under 5ft) and wonder if I'll be swamped by fabric and whether I won't find it all a bit complicated.

It's not that complicated, really. I remember taking it out the packet and being sure it was longer than my sitting room! I watched a YouTube video for confidence and found it much simpler than I thought. The nice thing is that you wrap yourself and tie it all on first, so the baby is safe on the floor while you're working that part out. All you have to do then is slot the baby into the thing and wander off. The slotting part is pretty easy with a newborn, gets a bit trickier once their legs are out, but by then you'll be a master and so will the baby.

i am 5 2 so not much taller than you and i have a moby and its fine :)

also have a wilkinet, a close carrier and a couple of ring slings

the moby is fab

oh and i have an old secon dhand ergo but never really got to grips with it tbh, the moby is much better and more supporitve imo, good for big babies as well :)

i have tried a few wraps, but currenlty only own one, tho actually i may have a non stretch weave wrap in a wardrobe upstairs

i certainly found the moby very good, it is slightly stretchy, but not enough to make it sag esp when carrying a heavy baby. the material is lovely and soft and very comfy and easy to wear.

its easy to leave on once you take the baby out, so no need to keep tying it, you can leave it on and pop baby in and out as required.

you can use it for multiple positions and i found it great for soothing fractious baby no 5 when dealing with 4 older kids, i could wear it for hours and do an hour long school walk with no probs with my back and i would be pushing a nipper with ds4 (who is HUGE) in it, i am busy obviously with 4 boys and baby, and it just meant i could be hands free, could even change ds4's nappy, cook, clean etc and just get on with stuff with baby all snuggled up :)

my woven wrap is the right size for me at 5 2 i could dig it out so you could try one if you like? pm me :)

mobys are fab, some good prices on amazon recently as well :)

I don't love the Ergo insert. I think the Ergo is a great carrier without it from 5 or 6 months +, but with it it's not ideal, especially for summer babies, since it is a bit hot. I much prefer a wrap (stretchy or woven) for smaller ones.

Managed to get an unused ergo insert for next to nothing, so will give it a go.

In the meantime, my new Moby wrap has arrived!
Should I give it a wash before using it for soon-to-arrive newborn?
