Why would you not use a woven wrap for a newborn?

I use a connecta now with 17m DS. Thinking ahead to the future, hoping to have a DC2, and I quite fancy getting a proper wrap for them (had a close carrier when DS was very small but never felt like I could tighten it enough so wasn't 100% secure with it!). I can only really justify buying one more and like the idea of a woven wrap so I can use it with DS now.

Have been reading the threads and for newborns the recommendations always seem to be stretchy wraps. So my question is are there any reasons why you should not use a woven wrap for a newborn/young baby?

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean and you're right for a first timer you definitely want something easy!

Right woven it is then. I've already seen how many there are out there but choosing is half the fun I always think :)

i usually recommend a stretchy wrap simply because they are soooooo easy to use.

but when I had ds3 I only ever used my storchenwiege because I liked it more,.

so there is no reason not to use a woven wrap, it's just a case of getting used to it and being confident using it. you could try some now with your 17m old, and if you get on with it then use it for any subsequent babies.

mine is still my most used sling for ds3 and he is nearly 2, it even overtook the toddlerhawk Shock

I only didnt use my storch as much because I found the ring sling easier. Only cos it had a pocket In the tail though Wink

I wish I'd been less cautious and got a woven for DS2 from birth! Having jusy received my first Didy from a Natural Mamas seller, I feel sad that he was never snuggled in it from birth. He's 17 wks now.

Having said that, I love my Kari me and it is sooo easy.

Can you practice with a friend's tiny baby before you have a second DC, or is that too cheeky? Grin

Thanks for your replies. Definitely plan on trying it out soon but think it probably is too cheeky to use someone else's newborn :)
