Hello

Just that really. I am a full time carer to my 2 children. I am always with them as the main carer and after caring for them all day and night I just have neglected myself. I have 3 stone to lose. My work load at home is heavy, as are my stress levels.

I have tried sw a few times but I always leave fast as I fail at the plan, maybe with the new changes to the plan I can make it work... I just stress eat. Its horrible, my eldest has ARFID on top of her pda autism and the more she knocks food back and cant cope with basic life the more I grab sweets.

I really need support. I know I need a mindset shift too.

I used to be so good with my diet then I became a mum and the diagnoses came and its all just fallen apart for me.

I am also type 2 diabetic and supposed to be dealing with it with my diet still after putting it into remission years ago, as to avoid the meds but I fell back on it and my HBA1C rose again... ah I hate the stress eating thing...

Slimming World ultimately don’t want you to lose weight and successfully keep it off, they want you to stay yo-yo dieting and paying them a membership fee for the privilege.

Talking bollocks

Ive been a member for 3 years s=now and only end up paying for a few weeks after a holiday and have gone mad on the drinks

When were you last a member?

PaperFlyingFucks · 07/08/2026 23:05

Was that not as you announced the meds were unhealthy? I recall seeing someone saying they’d lost 3 stone twice on sw , had gained 2 stone again, so were looking at their third time, and arguing slimming world worked bizzarely, even though they themselves were evidence it didn’t, and then even more bizzarely announcing the meds were unhealthy

I don’t know if it was you, apologies if it wasn’t, it’s the losing 3 stone twice that rings a bell.

Yeah it was me lol. I’m not going down that route again but I didn’t ’announce they were unhealthy at all’. I believe I was saying or trying to say I don’t think it’s healthy to inject yourself with drugs you don’t need to lose weight when you need to learn good habits and lose weight and keep it off healthily. The reason I put the weight in and we’re talking over about 14 years here is because I followed the plan until I got near target then something happened and I lost the plot with it.

But you realise now that it was never about needing to ‘learn’ anything? The things I didn’t know about nutrition and weight loss over the years were not worth knowing. There is a strong assumption made by many that fat people are fat because they are stupid. That's not the case. I didn’t need educated, I’m autistic and it was my special interest for many many years. I knew it all, I just simply could not stick to it. A WLI managed that for me so I can now eat what I have always known I should eat.

Why are you too scared to take the meds, is it health anxiety or lack of knowledge? Is it just these prescription meds or all meds?

on a separate note, slimming world has a 97 percent regain rate, it’s a diet designed to make you fail and come back and give them money,

id focus on calorie counting if you wish to do it without medical support, small healthy portions, low fat, low sugar, ensure you’re in a calorie deficit, you will know as you will lose weight, 500 defecit daily is a pound a week weight loss or 1000 cals a day defecit is 2lbs a week weight loss,

you maybe averaging 750 if you’ve lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks, However some will be water weight, as is normal at this stage,

I’m interested in the stats that show a 97% regain rate, I understood that around 95% of people will regain the weight in five years whatever diet they follow.
please could you link to the study re the 97%, thank you.

Is it that the people who gain back stop watching what they eat once at target and the weight piles back on because of overeating of calories again?

I know I’m very late to the party here, but I feel very strongly about this, so I’m going to put my two pence worth in.
All diets—including Slimming World—are designed to reduce your calorie intake without making you feel like you're starving. That’s great, but none of these plans address the real issue: our mindset and the way we see food.
We all overeat / eat the wrong thing because we enjoy it, not just enjoy we strive for every mouthful of every meal to be heaven on a fork. In other words, we are living to eat rather than eating to live. That isn't entirely our fault, either—we're constantly bombarded by clever advertising, colourful packaging, two-for-one offers, and celebrity chefs concocting elaborate meals with pounds of butter and cream. On top of that, our own bodies don't help. Those signals sent to the brain telling us we're hungry often act as automatic triggers to reach for the biscuit tin between meals.
It took me years of dieting and failing to fully understand the magnitude of having the right mindset. Once I got my head around it, the dieting—or to be more precise, the healthy eating plan—started to work.
The best thing that was ever said to me at Slimming World was simple: cut out processed food and eat straight from the ground, straight from the tree, and straight from the animal.
I now use this philosophy alongside realizing what food actually is—nothing more than a means to live I now only have a small breakfast and an evening meal cutting out lunch and all snacking. I also rely on a few mental tricks to keep myself on track. First, I lower my expectations and don't expect my meals to taste like a luxury bar of my favourite chocolate. (though they are still good) Second, I now see hunger pangs between meals as a real positive because I feel it is the route to weight loss; after all, how can you lose weight if you fill the tank back up every time you feel a bit hungry? Third, whenever those cravings hit, I drink a glass of flavoured water and wait twenty minutes. Finally, if I am still hungry, I use the "boring food test" to check if I'm truly hungry or just bored—I ask myself if I'd willingly eat an uncooked potato or a hot curry (I hate curry) right now, and if the answer is no, I know it's just a craving.
I now maintain a healthy weight. I do still "treat" myself, but not with food—I buy things like clothes that fit great and make me feel good. I do still go out to the occasional restaurant, and when I do, I enjoy it all the more.
