Hi all
just joined slimming world. My weight has absolutely spiralled out of control. Just weighed in at 27 stone 13.5lbs. I feel so embarrassed. Just want the ground to swallow me up.
determined to do something about my weight now. But wondered if anyone had joined with a very high start weight like me? I feel so
embarrassed.

I’m a size 20/22 so very similar to yourself and pondering on joining (again!)

I joined a few months ago, although online only, and my starting weight was just over 19 stone. I’ve lost 2 stone so far

Wow, that’s amazing stuff
Congratulations. Perhaps I’ll just do it online as to be honest with you I don’t enjoy the whole talk thing etc in the meetings 😩. When I did it many years ago, I just used to get weighed and disappear!

Hiya @Bunny2607

Firstly, well done for joining SW ~ I love that you used the word 'determined' when you stated your intention to do something about your weight

Secondly, I too had misgivings about joining. I am one of the older members and VERY unfit and I thought they would try to get me to do some fitness and/or exercise programme! I was very relieved to find that this, whilst encouraged, is entirely voluntary

I haven't got as much weight to lose as you, but I honestly don't think the amount matters. All the members are there because they have a weight issue and have decided to do something about it so we're all there for the same reasons

After being nervous and apprehensive about it for the first couple of meetings, I now look forward to going.

Some things that are helping me ~

I am trying new recipes - if I enjoy the meal I add it to a list I'm keeping of breakfasts, lunches and dinners so I'm slowly building up a new repertoire of meals

I write a shopping list and pretty much stick to it ~ I avoid the biscuit & chocolate aisles as they are the reason I'm attending SW!!!

I decide at the beginning of each day (sometimes the night before if I'm making overnight oats for breakfast) what my 3 healthy extras are going to be. I also try and add as much free food as I can for my 3 meals and save my SWIPS wherever possible for the evening as that's my danger time!

It's all about making it work for you. Good luck with it all, you'll be SO proud of your achievements and, I know it sounds daft, I love getting my certificates!!!!!

Best wishes

I joined with 3.5 stone to lose so not masses but my embarrassment was that I'd already lost three stone at the same group then after a bereavement I left group and put it all back on plus some more. I felt like such a failure but honestly I couldn't have been made to feel more welcome or supported.

It's such a friendly, helpful environment and everyone is in the same boat so they're all on your side. I don't think anyone cares if someone joins with half a stone or 15 stone to lose. The most popular, friendly and lovely woman in our group has lost 7 stone and still has a few to go. We're all so happy for her and proud of her.

Please don't be embarrassed OP. Everyone will be cheering you on.

If you can, have a look at the success stories on SW Insta or the App. So many people have had big loses that are life changing, it's really inspiring.

I love SW and feel so positive and much healthier as I'm seeing the pounds come off. You've taken the biggest step already. Good luck with your weight loss. I hope you enjoy your group.
