Just not working?

Has anyone else found Slimming world just doesn’t help. I know what my weaknesses are, but Slimming world doesn’t seem to be doing the trick. I’m thinking spending the money on the meal replacement shakes and just set myself outside of dinner only have them. The cost wouldn’t be too much more and may work! Anyone else find this helped?

Just calorie count using my fitness pal. Work out your tdee and eat a bit less. Slimming world works for some people but the fact an avocado is deemed bad but pasta shots things aren’t is weird.

Why are you not having success with SW?

Are you following it to a tee? Cos I sit in group each week and hear people with loses of over 4lb a week on a regular basis, those that follow to a tee drop a stone within a month

I dont follow to a tee, but even Ive shed over 2 stone and am keeping it off

Meal replacements are not going to do you any favours, Yes you will lose, minute you stop them, the weight will come back because you have not learned how to fill yourself on proper lower calorie foods

Slimming world is just learning to eat a balanced diet healthy diet with out having to weigh and measure every morsel. So while you are losing, you are also learning what foods and portion sizes that work for you

Avocado is not "bad" its " syned " so you eat in moderation as part of a balanced diet

Mug shots? They are suggested as a low calorie quick grab - rather than a packet of biscuits . Ive been doing SW for coming 3 years and Ive not ever eaten a mug shot or the pasta in sauce things , nor a ready meal nor fry light. And yes I eat avocado , use olive oil and butter - and if I liked the texture of a mashed banana, Id eat that as well

SW promote real food cooked at home. However so many of us get there from a long history of ready meals / take aways, and for some the transition to home cooking real food is huge, so of course they make suggestions of " healthier " options of processed foods . Some people, having been reliant on processed foods all their lives dont even know how to make a soup or a tomato sauce

Sw has the highest regain weight of any diet, it’s 97 percent of people regain the weight.

honestlu just focus on calories in calories out, don’t do shakes, you need to teach yourself new habits and stick to them.

This.

My sister used to go to Slimming World, and I'd tag along and go for a coffee with her afterwards. I've never understood how it works for anyone. I guess if all you eat is chocolate and crisps, you might lose weight initially because it does encourage you to eat lean proteins and veg, but I've never understood their "free food".

Obviously, if I ate my "syns" breakfast, then a plate of "free" scrambled eggs and bacon, my "syns" lunch and then a massive roast chicken, my "syns" dinner and then a "free" plate of chicken and veg, I'd end up 3x the size I was before I started. No food is free. It all has calories; starches in particular should be weighed and portioned if you want to lose weight, as they can be quite high in calories.

I expect what is happening in your case, OP, is that you're going overboard on the free pasta and rice.

My sister used to make her own "mug shots" for between-meal snacks and then complain when she wasn't losing much weight.

Well, no shit, you're eating massive mugs of boiled pasta, tomatoes, and salt every time you fancy a bag of crisps. The crisps would have fewer calories.

Are you actually following the plan? Although certain foods are free, if you're following the plan correctly and filling half your plate with speed foods (veg) then you don't have room for masses of calories from your healthy extras and syns.

DD2 lost 10kg in 4 months, and that was with taking every Friday afternoon off (drink and snack as part of a school activity) and two weeks for a summer holiday. She's been off SW since August and has regained 400g.

I had the same issue with Slimming World. I knew the rules but still overate at dinner. Meal replacement shakes helped me reset portions, especially in the evening. I used them for one meal a day, not all meals. That kept calories predictable and stopped snacking. They are not magic, but they can help if structure is what you are missing. The key for me was consistency for a few weeks, then adding normal meals back in with clearer limits.

It clearly states the free food is unlimited though, yes it then contradicts itself and says how to split a plate, but doesnt give a limit.

most slimming world people do it on and off for years as the failure and regain rate is bordering on 100 percent, it’s not just the free food, it’s the mad things like muller lights or low fat laughing cow, which no one wants to keep eating after they hit goal. It promotes volume eating and of course it all leads to regain, which is how they make their money, it is not in their interests for people to keep it off.

my sil did it on and off for about 2o years and recently said she thought it didn’t work and she was going to go to cals in cals out, I didn’t say anything, other than to encourage her, but I was thinking Christ didn’t you think that the second or third time you went back two decades ago.

slimming world, weight watchers etc do not teach you about your body’s energy needs or how to fuel it properly. Hence the high failure rate.
agree with PPs suggesting you focus on calorie intake and increasing your protein. Aim for more movement generally - 8000 to 10000 steps daily.
spend the money you’d have spent on slimming world meetings on extra fruit and veg to fill you up for low calories.
