How can I make it work?

I have tried SW previously but with not much success, I would like to try again because I like the idea of eating more whole foods, cooking from scratch and no calorie counting, I don't like the idea so much of low fat foods, being able to eat unlimited amounts of pasta, I know this doesn't work for me, but I do want to try again with success, any ideas and advice on what I need to focus on to make it work for me! Thank you 😊

You aren't doing it properly if you think you can eat unlimited amounts of pasta, that's probably why it hasn't worked. You can eat pasta but only as part of a plate of food , so a third pasta, third salad or veg and third protein.

I don't eat specific low fat foods , I eat soya yoghurt or use my syns for oil and butter in cooking.

Hi there,
I've done Slimming World successfully in past, once losing 3 stone in 6 months and then last year losing 2 stone in 3 months. I completely believe in the plan and feel like I could take a class. I just don't always believe in my ability to do the plan. I'm an all or nothing girl and throw the towel in very easily. Really working at that and think it's down to self-worth and a steady and forgiving approach rather than rules and restraints.
Pasta wise - I often have huge bowls... When I'm hungry enough for it. I have best weight loss when I pair it with speed veg. I overeat bread so try to avoid that or keep it for a treat. (It's a limited Healthy Extra so need to be more careful with it.)
I use the app to track all my foods which is easy once it's a habit. I look for the low syn foods that I love and recipes that appeal to me. You have to want to eat it!!! Some of the suggested meals are sidestepped without even a thought.😂 Saying that, I've found a way to like cottage cheese (very well blitzed) and whisked egg as a base for crustless pies/quiches. Never thought I would say that!
I really do think it's a brilliant plan in that it promotes moderate eating. Wishing you the very best of luck with it all!

Also keep a food diary and note everything. I was surprised at how many 'just one biscuit' type thing was going on. I did it to keep company with my OH who needed to lose weight. He does most of the cooking, summer not surprisingly we tend to have salads, fortunately we both enjoy these. Not so warm weather its just normal meal with lots of veg. For us it was cutting out bread and oils mainly that helped (and snacks, crisps, chocolate etc)

Any weight loss is 1% about what you eat and 99% phycological, can you mind set right and you’ll be fine. Other than that, my advice which every plan you go with reduce your carbs by 95% and sugar by 99% percent. This is how I lost 4.5 stone (on SW) and have maintained it for 6 months not. I don’t diet and never have, I eat healthy.

My trick was hitting it with the ab roller u get quick fast results and get your body toned with a six pack with in two months going to work five times a week and a good two to five hours a day

I found that the easiest way to do it was to make all your main meal’s completely syn free if possible, healthy a and b in there (normally get it sorted with breakfast) and then your syns are there if you are struggling and deviate a bit.

Find what your ‘life saver” is. ‘Mine is carrot sticks and homade free hummus. I take tupperwares of that and bananas everywhere so Im never caught out and have loads of meals. Input everything on the app.

The reason it doesnt work is when people dont write down what they have. Like they dont put in all their milk from tea or whatever.

It’s to feel a sense of control in taking back your life and yoir health. Oh and go to the group.

And there’s nothing wrong with carbs. You can eat heaps of pasta, thats fine. The whole
point is to be realistic and make it fit you.

I rejoined slimming world last month. I previously lost 3 stone doing it and felt amazing. Over the years, I've gained so much weight. I completely lost control of my eating when teaching and I've had 2 pregnancies (one being twins). I decided mentally, enough was enough and I wanted to take control again. My weight loss is slow at just 7.5lb in 4 weeks. However, I am not hungry, cooking really well and still breastfeeding my twins.
I'm not longer eating heaps of chocolate and I actually don't crave it. Trying to use syns on healthy fats and nourishing foods. Strength training a little when I find the time. You have to be in the right mindset. Any 'diet' works if you stick to it but I try to view slimming world as a better, healthier lifestyle. My aim is to feel good and not drop sizes quickly.
Good luck

You could do a food diary and get the consultant to look over it each week .
I think we all conveniently forget the “ third of the plate needs to be speed “ that does leave room for pasta/ rice / potato but not by the gallon
I love SW and believe it does work , I’ve lost 4 stone but always slowly revert back to bad habits when I don’t go to group - so I keep going each week for free and help with raffle , shop , tea and coffee

What helped me was ignoring the idea of unlimited anything. I treated pasta and rice as normal portions, not free food. I cooked from scratch but added measured fats so meals felt satisfying. I planned syns daily and used them, instead of saving them and then overeating. Protein at every meal made the biggest difference for me. If a rule clearly does not work for you, adjust it and keep the rest.
